Welcome to the King Valley

The King Valley is famous for its world class wines and gourmet food, spectacular scenery and natural beauty, historic legends and cultural heritage, national parks and an extensive river system all for you to enjoy. The King Valley extends from Wangaratta 75km south into the Alpine National Park. The Valley can also be accessed from Mansfield via the Mansfield – Whitfield road, a beautiful scenic drive on a good sealed road.

In Whitfield there are two caravan parks, a hotel with accommodation, and many B and B's available for self contained stays. A list of the B&B's can be found under accommodation.

The King Valley boasts some of the highest altitude vineyards in the country, producing premium boutique wines including European and Mediterranean varieties. The heart and soul of the King Valley is essentially its people, characters, identity and connection to a vibrant Italian community and associated mediterranean influences. Amongst our natural features not to miss:

  • Waterfalls, such as Paradise Falls – a straight drop of 31m to the creek bed below with Little Falls just nearby
  • Dandongadale Falls -  the highest vertical drop (255m) in Victoria
  • Excellent viewing points, including Powers Lookout on the Mansfield–Whitfield Road – the vantage point so named as it was the haunt of the "Gentleman Bushranger" Harry Power
  • Lake William Hovell – just 18km from Cheshunt, a picturesque recreational area perfect for BBQs, walking and fishing
  • Mount Cobbler (1640m) and Lake Cobbler (1100m) - 4WD or mountain bike only

The Milawa Gourmet Region is known to represent the epitome of the wine and food experience. Centred around the townships of Milawa and Oxley, this area is home to a number of leading wineries including the highly regarded Brown Brothers. In Milawa the Milawa Bakery, The Cheese Factory and The Olive Shop are also must see.
